Creating a Choose the Category Game

This page describes how to make a game. For more general help on making games on Sugarcane, please read How to Make a Game.

In Choose the Category, players must identify the category that an item belongs to. Go ahead and explore a few examples:

The key to a successful game is having a column of data that can be thought of as containing a limited number of categories. In this list of countries, the Main Continent column is a good candidate, since it contains a mere six categories (Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania) that all countries in the world fit into.

Here’s how you turn this into a game:

And here, again, is the resulting game: Choose the Continent

You might be surprised at what can serve as a category. Take a look at this data set of famous works of art. Although there are many paintings, they belong to a small number of artists. This means the artists themselves can be categories. Let's use the images as our items and the artists as our categories.

You can see the game here: Choose the Artist

And here's how this game was made:

Now it’s your turn. Give it a try and have fun!
