Creating a Before or After Game
In Before or After, players must compare two items and determine which one comes before and which one comes after. Go ahead and explore a few examples:
The key to making a successful game is having a column of data with the items you would like to order and another column of data that tells how to do it. In this list of Disney Films, the Poster column contains the posters of the films that we want to order, and the Release Date column tells us what the order should be.
Here’s how you turn this into a game:
And here, again, is the resulting game: Is this Disney Movie Before or After?
You can order your items by numbers, dates, or text. This allows for a lot of variety! You can even choose more than one ordering method, in which case players will be asked to order the items differently from round to round. Looking at the Solar System Planets data set, we see that we can order the planets by their Rotation period (days) and also by their Orbital period (years).
Try out the resulting game: Which Planet Is Faster?
And here's how this game was made:
Now it’s your turn. Give it a try and have fun!
