Motion | An object's change in position relative to a reference point. |

Stationary | The condition of not moving |

Reference point | A place or object used for comparison to determine if an object is in motion |

distance | How far an object has moved or the space between two points |

Speed | Distance an object travels per unit of time. MPH or m/s |

Speed equation | speed=distance/time |

average speed | The overall rate of speed at which an object moves; calculated by dividing the total distance an object travels by the total time. |

instantaneous speed | The rate at which an object is moving at a given moment or instant in time |

velocity | A variable that tells you both speed and direction. 36 m/s North |

slope | The steepness of a line. |

slope equation | Rise/Run |

Acceleration | Change in velocity over time. Acceleration = final velocity-initial velocity / time --unit is m/s/s or meters per second squared |

Deceleration | A change in velocity that is negative or slowing down. Also called negative acceleration |

Acceleration formula | final velocity - starting velocity/time it takes to change velocity |
